Swami Jyotirmayananda was incarnated as an avatara of Vishnu on February 3, 1931, in the state of Bihar, India, a northern province sanctified by Budhha. In 1953, Swamiji or “Gurudev'' as he is lovingly referred to, embraced the eternal order of sanyasa at age 22, as a direct disciple of His Holiness Swami Sivananda Saraswati Maharaj, the world’s preeminent spiritual master and founder of the Divine Life Society in Rishikesh, India. In tireless service to his spiritual preceptor, Gurudev taught at the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy giving lectures on the Upanishads, Yoga Vasistha, Raja Yoga and other scriptures of Yoga. Gurudev also handled all of Swami Sivananda’s correspondence, translated many of his books into Hindi, and served as the Chief Editor of the Yoga Vedanta Journal.
Gurudev’s transcendental command of spiritual knowledge and dynamic expositions attracted enormous interest from aspirants worldwide. After many requests, Swami Jyotirmayananda came to the West in 1962 to spread the knowledge of Yoga Vedanta, first landing in Puerto Rico. In 1969, he established the Ashram in Miami, Florida, which has become the center for international activities, publications and teachings of the Yoga Research Foundation. Later in 1985, Gurudev established the International Yoga Society to serve a worldwide audience and Divya Jyotir School for children in New Delhi, India. In 2000, the Jyotirmayananda Ashram and Vocational Training Center for abused and neglected women was established in Bihar. Then in 2006, the Lalita Jyoti Anananthalaya orphanage and school for young girls opened its doors in Sonipat. These institutions in India and the United States are serving the community by offering regular satsanga, Yoga classes and camps, published and translated writings, and operating free medical clinics for the marginalized and underserved populations.

For untold lifetimes, Sri Sudarshan has been practicing and teaching spirituality, health and happiness in the human experience. Being curious about the interconnection of universal nature, individual personality and their ideal balance, he started Yoga discipline consistently before it rose to popularity in the West and became widely known for its postures, breathing and meditation. In his very first experience, Yoga revealed its infinitely positive and mystic outcomes in a moment of divine revelation. His body became completely quiet, his mind became absolutely calm, and the Voice of Truth was heard saying:
In this lifetime, Sri Sudarshan resumed teaching Yoga at M.B. Patel Higher Secondary and Secondary School in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India, while following the same footsteps of his adored great-grandfather, Purushottamdas 'Daskaka' Patel, Member of Indian Parliament, pioneer of education, national reformer and founder of the campus. After completing his B.A. degree at SGIS from the Indiana University - Bloomington, writing theses on Global Sustainability, Religions and Philosophy, Gandhian Economics, and the Ethnography of Yoga, as expressions of his interest in personal, professional and civil leadership. Sudarshan is licensed and certified to teach Yoga by the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Yoga continued evolving him on the path of Self-Realization. With the development of auspicious aspiration for the sublime knowledge of Yoga's unbroken lineages, Sudarshan felt the clear message to give his life to the mission of teaching Yoga and studying under the Yoga Masters who have preserved this undeniable gift by their shining example. Accepting the first and informal title of Yoga Siromani, Jewel of the Crown of Yoga, Sri Sudarshan committed his life to Dharma, upholding truth, virtue and purity.

An initiated direct disciple of two of the world's most illustrious spiritual masters, Sri Sudarshan studies and teaches Yoga for attaining the Goal of Life through direct initiation from His Holiness Pujyatman Sri Swami Jyotirmayananda, the Enlightened Saint, Living Sage, the 'Genius of Yoga,' who is now presiding at the Yoga Research Foundation in Miami, FL, U.S.A. Sri Sudarshan's beloved Guru is also the venerable and last-remaining direct disciple of the world's preeminent spiritual master of the 19th Century, Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati of the Divine Life Society. Sri Sudarshan also received the direct initiation from Sri Swami Rajarshi Muni, at the Lakulish Yoga University in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Their lives embody all Yoga teachings.
